Guide to Image Sizes

Creating beautiful images is key to a good-looking site. Here are recommendations.

Sourcing Images

  • Find textless, high-definition images (we recommend starting with 1920x1080px or higher.)

  • Free sources:

    • themoviedb.org (find a movie, select MEDIA, then BACKDROPS)

    • Google Images (to filter to only see large images, select TOOLS, SIZE and then LARGE)

Resizing Images

  • You will need to resize the images.

  • We recommend using Adobe Photoshop (if you use Photoshop, you can download template files for all image sizes here).

  • But you can also use free tool such as picresize.com or GIMP.

Image Sizes

  1. Homepage Carousel

    • 1141 pixels wide x 422 pixels high

    • PNG or JPG file format

    • TIP: For the Homepage Carousel, try to use clear, text-less images. Text is overlayed from the Promotional Title, Promotional Subtitle, and Link Title. More info here.

  2. Promotional Sidebar

    • 262 pixels wide x 500 pixels high (height is variable)

    • PNG or JPG file format

    • TIP: Unlike the Homepage Carousel, any text messages you will need to build into the image itself (like an advertisement). We recommend using Adobe Photoshop for this. We also recommend using fonts and colours consistent with your logo and website.

  3. Promotional Footer

    • For traditional 3 column layout:

      • 524 pixels wide x 466 pixels high

      • PNG or JPG file format

    • For the stacked single column layout:

      • 850 pixels wide x 300 pixels high (height is variable)

      • PNG or JPG file format

    • TIP: Unlike the Homepage Carousel, any text messages you will need to build into the image itself (like an advertisement). We recommend using Adobe Photoshop for this. We also recommend using fonts and colours consistent with your logo and website.
